PLEIN AIR WORKSHOP LIVE/VIDEO ON ZOOM
December 27, 2020 | 12 pm – 5pm NY Time
In our first plein air workshop, we will virtually get out of our studios to an authentic traditional marina to paint some boats. Plein air painting became popular again in recent years to achieve that immediate look of the painting along with benefits of increased tonal gradations of light and bottomless depth of color.
Live lesson will precede our prerecorded plein air video. We are going to talk about how and where to setup your easel, materials and how to carry less, about mixing colors and painting without a mandatory black and white sketch. Step-by-step instruction will be given to complete the painting. Finally, we are virtually going back to my studio to complete the painting, adding highlights and small brushstrokes to give the painting the finished look.
After the whole process is done, the participants will receive individual critique of their work.
Vladislav will be available for questions all the time during the class.
The recording of the workshop will be available to watch for 2 days after the Live event.
HOLIDAY BONUS: EACH PARTICIPANT WILL RECEIVE A NEW UPCOMING “Boats en Plein Air” video workshop either on DVD or streaming on Vimeo for free. This video workshop includes two plein air demonstrations (value $69)

It is quite used topic recently but most of the time this subject understood incorrectly. If I paint the things around me, of course I paint the light, right? Nope. The professional artist knows it , the good one, the bad one continues painting illustrations. That is why when you see the work, unconsciously you know, it’s real, it’s a pro work.
I will tell you, but most important show you and even more important explain you what does that mean to paint the light even using the photograph.
There will be a tiny lecture up front, then together we’ll do a small exercise from a photo. And finally we will paint the streetscape.
All of this will be LIVE and you will have the opportunity to ask questions, show me your results and communicate with me using your microphone and camera. Most important, you will receive a “roadmap” for your future development.
We sort of know that Vlad is not going to be with you all the time in your studio and looking above your shoulder, right? 😉
Date: TBA
Time: 11 am – 2 pm
Let’s practice your drawing and sketching skills for variety of subject matters. Vlad will explain nuances and danger zones in composition, proportions and perspective. You will be able to show Vlad your creations for his feedback.

PAINTING JOUCAS
Sunday May 31, 2020
Time: 11am – 4pm with 30 min lunch break
Joucas image was taken during Vlad’s workshop in Provence, France a few years ago. In the middle of a quiet French small town, the group of students found the beauty of old house with very attractive elements such as windows, pottery etc. which is so authentic to that French region. This workshop will try to bring back the impression by selectively highlighting some important elements in it by exploiting color and shapes. Of course, painting techniques such as wet on wet, dry brush, paper scratch outs etc. will be paid attention and discussed there.
The workshop will concentrate on idea of reinterpreting the scenery into loose impressionist perception style. Composition, hierarchy of elements in it, painting techniques approaches to highlight only important elements will be the subject of the lecture beforehand. The demonstration of the black and white sketch with explanation of tonal values physics will precede final color application demonstration.
Small group of students will give Vlad the opportunity to look at each student work in progress and comment on it along the way. You will communicate with instructor using your computer microphone and camera. Students will take turns to communicate with instructor and receive final critique upon request.
Wednesday April 29, 11am – 4pm

The Carabelle image was taken during the quick draw at the Forgotten Coast Paint out event a few years ago. The award winning painting was done in two hour time on location there. In the forest of masts and other marine elements, Vlad could find the harmony in composition and selective objects around him. The ability to see these elements in the future painting is a painters must and will be discussed during the workshop. Of course, painting techniques such as wet on wet, dry brush, paper scratch outs etc. will be paid attention and discussed there.
