‘SAILING WITH THE PAINT BRUSH’ Interactive Quick Draw Paint-Out & Art Show
To Raise Funds for the Sailing Squadron on Wednesday, April 18th

Sarasota, FL – The public is invited to watch more than 20 local artists put paint to canvas at the “Sail with a Paintbrush” event on Wednesday, April 18th from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm, an interactive event featuring local artists and raising funds for the not-for-profit Sarasota Sailing Squadron’s youth sailing program.

The event is FREE to public with all the art created in the morning being offered for sale, starting in the afternoon, at the Sarasota Sailing Squadron, 1717 Ken Thompson Parkway, next to Ken Thompson Park on City Island.

Organized by the Renaissance School of Art, more than 20 participating artists, both professionals and talented amateurs, will each create a ‘quick draw’ (paintings created in less than two hours) starting promptly at 10:00 am. Completed, framed paintings will be ready just two hours later at 12:00 pm for judging by Vladisalv Yeliseyev, internationally renowned watercolor artist who currently resides in Sarasota.

At 1:00 pm there will be a brief awards ceremony with 1st, 2nd & 3rd prizes and a Collector’s Choice Award presented to the winners. The public will be asked to vote for their favorite painting between 12:00 and 2:00 pm for the Collector’s Choice Award.

The sale to the public continues until 4:00 pm. Those attending will be able to view both the newly created (and still wet) paintings of the morning, as well an additional paintings offered by each artist for sale. A portion of the proceeds of all sales made will benefit the programs of the not-for-profit Sarasota Sailing Squadron, including the renowned Youth Sailing program.

During the event, donated paintings by members of SRQ Plein Air Painter group will be raffled. Raffle tickets can be purchased online at www.yeliseyevstudio.com or at the Sarasota Sailing Squadron office any time prior the event. Additionally, tickets for the raffle will be sold during the event.

About the Judge: Vladislav Yeliseyev (Vlad), founder of Renaissance School of Art, is an award winning watercolorist and architectural illustration professional who frequently takes top honors in national events such as Olmstead Plein Air Invitational, Forgotten Coast Plein Air Invitational, Easels In Frederick, Plein Air Easton, En Plein Air Texas, and other international watercolor competitions. Yeliseyev is a signature member of American Impressionist Society and National Watercolor Society.  Vlad was a popular teacher at the Plein Air Convention and Expo sponsored by Plein Air Magazine. The SRQ Plein Air Painters is a group of professional and amateur painters from the community who meet twice a week on Wednesdays and Saturdays to paint in different locations along Florida’s West Coast. The group is sponsored by the Renaissance School of Art, and is dedicated to capturing and celebrating the beauty and warmth of the area by painting historic architecture, native landscape and local wildlife. www.yeliseyevstudio.com

The Sarasota Sailing Squadron is a private, not-for-profit sailing club open to anyone interested in the sport of sailing and other non-motorized water sports. The Squadron encourages the sport of sailing and other water sports, promotes the science of seamanship and navigation, environmental awareness and instruction for adults and children. The Squadron hosts regattas and races, sponsors cruises and recreational events and fosters a spirit of good fellowship, courtesy and sportsmanship. SRQPAP invites you to join our open paint out to help Sarasota Sailing Squadron in their mission to promote environmental awareness and the science of seamanship and navigation, while fostering a spirit of good fellowship, courtesy and sportsmanship.

The art created during the Quick Draw will be framed, judged, and sold off the easel immediately following the announcements of the awards.

Entry procedure:

  • Pay Fee of $30 – payable online below or by check. If you are paying by check, make it to Renaissance School of Art and mail it to 4600 Pine Harrier Dr. Sarasota, FL, 34231
  • Email your bio/statement and an image (s) of your recent work in jpg size approx. 1000 pixels on the largest side. Files shouldn’t be too small or too large. Email it to srqpap@gmail.com Name your file: FirstNameLastnameTitleMedium.jpg  If you don’t name it appropriately, we won’t be able to recognize the author and therefore will not promote your work.

Artwork Sale:

Artwork must be for sale. In the event of sale, artists will receive 60% of final price. 30% of sales will be donated to Sarasota Sailing Squadron, the rest will cover expenses occurred in preparation of this paint out, processing and other fees. We are asking you to bring an additional painting created at Sailing Squadron previously (not eligible for awards) for the showcase. It will required stand or small table easel to exhibit your work while you are painting in the field.
