Sail with the PaintBrush – fund raising benefit event for Sarasota Sailing Squadron: Paint Out and Off Easel Art Sale

‘Sail with the Paintbrush’ set for Dec. 10

The Renaissance School of Art, together with the SRQ Plein Air Painters of Sarasota, will host a quick draw event in which artists will create paintings in less than three hours. “Sail With the Paintbrush” will be held Dec. 10 to benefit the Sarasota Sailing Squadron.

The public is invited at no charge to watch the artists as they create their paintings at the Sarasota Sailing Squadron, and then see the artwork exhibited. Paintings will be offered for purchase. Twenty artists have registered to participate in the event. The Squadron is at 1717 Ken Thompson Parkway, next to Ken Thompson Park on City Island, Sarasota.

Artists will start at 10 a.m. and must complete their paintings by 12:30 p.m., when they will be judged by noted artists Vladislav Yeliseyev and Joseph Melancon.

Awards will be announced at 2 p.m.; prizes will be given for first, second and third place and an Artists’ Choice award. Artists Awards are being donated by Stakenborg Fine Art Gallery, Keeton’s Art Supply and the Renaissance School of Art. Other sponsors include Treegarden Photography, and Sandra Appignani & Mark Baumgarten, Realtors with Premier Sotheby’s International Realty.

The exhibit and sale to the public continues until 5 p.m. Visitors will be able to view both the wet paintings made that morning, as well an additional painting offered by each artist for sale. During the sale, painting donated by Renaissance School of Art co-founder Vlad Yeliseyev will be raffled. Yeliseyev is an internationally known watercolorist and architectural illustrator who frequently takes top honors in national events such as Frederick Maryland’s ‘Easels In Frederick’, Plein Air Easton, Plein Air Texas, and is a popular teacher at the Plein Air Convention and Expo sponsored by Plein Air magazine. Parking for the event will be in the park circle just outside the entrance gate to the Squadron, at the end of the Ken Thompson Parkway.

About the Sarasota Sailing Squadron: The Squadron is a private, not-for-profit sailing club open to anyone interested in the sport of sailing and other non-motorized water sports. The Squadron encourages the sport of sailing and other water sports and promotes the science of seamanship and navigation, environmental awareness and instruction for adults and children. About the SRQ Plein Air Painters: The SRQ Painters are sponsored by the Renaissance School of Art, and include members from Sarasota, Charlotte and Manatee counties. They meet twice a week on Wednesdays and Saturdays at various locations to paint the area’s scenery outdoors.
