SUMMER ART CLASSES 2016

Learn to draw, paint and create with professional award winning artists and certified art instructors at Renaissance School of Art. We offer fun and educational summer classes for kids and teens which run Monday through Friday. Children will explore various materials and techniques, learn art history and will have FUN, FUN, FUN creating their very own masterpieces.

  • Small groups up to 10 kids. Age 6 and up, teens.
  • Location: 4063 S. Tamiami Trail, Sarasota, FL
  • Materials included in the class fee.
  • Register for summer classes with Paypal or credit card. (Online registration can be found at the bottom of this page.)
  • We will appreciate your early enrollment. It is important for our Team of Teachers to know the number of kids and their age in advance in order to prepare the lesson plan and gather the materials.

AUGUST 8 – 12, 2016

10:00am – 12:00pm         Animals at Play

This group of lessons will use various materials to encourage observation skills. Students will sketch various animals and developed patterns of color and texture. Do animals play? Come join and see? Lessons will be on going and build on children’s skill level.

12:30pm – 2:30pm           Wheel of Color

In this class children will use different vehicles in still life to learn about color mixing while painting. Join the ride for a colorful trip around the color wheel with the bikes, cars and wagons.

JUNE 13 – 17, 2016

10:00am – 12:00pm         Batik, Fabric and Wild Tee Shirt Designing

Batik is both an art and a craft, which is becoming more popular and Camp batikwell known in the West as a wonderfully creative medium. Create a painting on watercolor paper and fabric by applying wax and wax resist and painting over it with color dyes and inks.  Learning how colors react with wax and creating different effects by applying layers of colors. We will be creating more colors and effects after the painting is dried and the wax ironed out by applying transparent layers over existing colors.  We will be, tie dyeing braiding, cutting, gluing, applying different techniques to changing tee shirts into wearable works of art using inks, fabric paint, and dyes. Each student will have several wearable items that will make their own unique fashion statement. This class is for boys and girls… the imagination will be stimulated!  Open for kids age 7 and up, teens. Fee: $150. Instructor: Amy Webber

12:30pm – 2:30pm           The Sketchbook as an Art FormSketch open house

Come ready to explore using a sketchbook every day. We will work in pencil, colored pencil, pen and ink and watercolor. We will record scenes around us, your favorite subjects and some crazy objects you never thought about drawing. We will also add collage to our work along with favorite photographs. Get ready to want to be a Sketcher forever! Open for kids age 8 and up, teens. Fee: $150. Instructor: Susie Covert

3:00pm – 5:00pm             Figure Drawing and Painting for Teens

Using different mediums like pencil, charcoal, acrylic, pastel and watercolor we will explore drawing the figure in costume with fun props and interesting postures. We will learn basic anatomy and structure and have a great time learning to use line and shading with the varied mediums to create a figure. Each day we will look at a different artist to give us inspiration. Model fee is included. Fee: $ 180. Instructor: Susie Covert

10:00am – 12:00pm            Make your own Doll!

Kids will have fun by designing and making their own dolls.  They will learn how to sketch their ideas, how to measure proportions and apply it to their projects, and finally they will learn how to sew all parts together. Age: 8 and up, teens. Fee: $150.

katya12:30pm – 2:30pm             Writing with Mixed Media Illustration

Students will collectively write a short story.  Scene selection will be a group decision with guidance from the teacher.  Each student will choose a scene to illustrate.  Practice storyboard illustrations will be created by the student using poster board, first with markers, then other materials.  Final illustrations will be completed using mixed media on canvas. Fee: $150.

3:00pm – 5:00pm               Intro to oil painting for Teens

Start in the right direction as you begin oil painting for the first time. We will set up our color palette, draw and block in values and mass, then experience handling oil painting from observation. JUNE 27 – JULY 1, 2016

10:00am – 12:00pm             Art/Math/Nature

How can math be part of nature and art? Join us as we explore manipulating shapes and look at the marvels of nature and express a connection in our very own style. Students will create using symmetry, patterns and color. Fee: $150. Instructor: Susie Covert

Why did the Modern Master Painters paint the way they did? Learn about Matisse, Cezanne, Picasso and let’s create and see what it feels like to do what they did, in our very own way. Fee: $150. Instructor: Susie Covert
