Hai-Ou Hou

2 DAY WORKSHOP in 2018 – more information is coming soon

If interested, send us an email and we will get back to you as soon as the dates are confirmed.

From Hai-Ou’s student Michael Jakubowski: “I have participated in two of Hai-Ou’s workshops and visited her Maryland school. The workshops are well structured with a defined daily agenda. She is an experienced teacher with a wealth of information to offer. Hai-Ou makes it a point to spend time with each student and provide specific hands-on assistance during every exercise – be prepared to take notes. The workshops have paid dividends; after taking her Quick-Draw workshop in 2016, I was able to place and win in multiple Quick-Draw events in Florida and Maryland that year.”
Vladislav Yeliseyev recommends: “She has unique very colorful style with impressionist twist and iron hand brushwork. Her workshops are usually full and I witnessed people follow her events around the country. Hai Ou is running hugely popular Chesapeake Fine Art Studio in Easton Maryland where she is teaching oil paintings. She is equally comfortable with figurative and landscape subject matters. She has a great personality and I somehow convinced her to give this workshop for our area painters.”

Quick, Lose and Fresh, Bold and Fun!

Hai-Ou Hou 2-day Quick Fun with Color and Design

February 24 – 25, 2017   2 day tuition: $295; one day tuition: $160

Join dynamic, award-winning painter Hai-Ou Hou for a 2-day all-level, all-media, intensive painting workshop. Hai-Ou has adapted a powerful abstract aesthetic of impressionist painting for creating intensely colored, highly textured, and provocative art en plein airHow to bring your paintings to the next level?  Too many artists are not paying attention to one of the most important areas – design. This class focuses on the elements of design including shapes, angles, space, color and composition.  The class lectures will cover these important elements of design followed by practical exercises and application. This is not a color mixing class. Hai-Ou will show you the key elements on how to  make your painting more expressive and appealing,  your colors bright and intense without being raw, and subtle without being muddy. Indoor and outdoor activities. Supplies: Bring whatever you are using for oil colors;  you will also try mine. I use a variety of colors but the following are essential:  Alizarin Crimson, Ultramarine Blue, Cobalt Blue, Lemon Yellow, Cadmium Orange, Cadmium Red, and Titanium White. A larger palette for mixing colors. Watercolor and pastel artists must bring supplies, but I highly suggest that you try my oils. You will need to bring 6-8 small painting sufaces (1.e. 6×8, 8×10, 9×12). We will be doing many quick exercises.  During the afternoon of our second day, we will wrap up with a 11×14 or 9×12 or 12×16 timed exercise. If you follow directions, you will be able to finish a large painting  less than two hours!
